Issue 118 • November 22, 2022
It’s a short week so we’ll get right down to business. Having to close down certain facilities during COVID gave many hotel general managers an opportunity to rethink profit and loss centers — much to the dismay of some guests. Many surveys are saying 2023 is going to be like the wild west with all sorts of trends going on as people travel for all types of reasons. One, in particular, has to do with what they are streaming on TV. There’s an odd green fruit showing up on cocktail menus with more regularity, and blended travel — is it here to stay or will it go? What’s your prediction? Check it all out in our three-minute read below and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Hotel Swimming Pools Are Being Repurposed
This space above used to be a swimming pool. Now it’s a lounge and event space. When hotels temporarily closed down pools during COVID, they had plenty of time to reimagine what they could do with the area and realized being able to rent out this real estate as event space was MUCH more profitable. Get Ready For The “Set Effect”
Expedia has just released a huge 2023 Travel Trends Report and one of the interesting finds is that “Set Jetters” are turning to TV Tourism. Travelers are looking at captivating TV locales for their next-big-trip inspiration. So it should come as no surprise that two-thirds of global travelers have considered and 39% have booked trips to destinations after seeing them on streamed shows or movies. Are You Ready For The Avocado Cocktail?
Af&co and Carbonate’s annual Food & Beverage Trends has some interesting predictions about what restaurants are going to be cooking and pouring come the new year. We were particularly intrigued by the Avocado Cocktail. It’s going to be a hit they say because “This star of guacamole and avocado toast has a creamy mouthfeel, adds body, and the fat cuts through alcohol’s heat.” Read more in Nation’s Restaurant News here.
Blended Travel Continues To Grow
It doesn’t really matter what you call it — blended travel or bleisure travel — the reality is that people are more open to it these days and the lines between vacation and business travel are no longer so black and white. In fact, in a recent Google survey, 74% of business travelers say they find the idea appealing, while 50% of travelers have already taken a blended trip, and for those who haven’t, 37% plan to do so, while 33% say it gives them the opportunity to get to know places they wouldn’t otherwise visit.
