#Trending This Week — NFTs Check In At Hotels, Mushrooms Become A Meat Alternative, Tourism Advertising On NYC Cars, And One Big Brand Creates A Media Network
Issue 94 • May 24, 2022
You knew it had to happen…NFTs moving into the travel space. We’ve got the latest on the first hotel in the US to offer NFT reservations. Mushrooms — which we recently reported would be trending this year — are now becoming a whole-cut meat alternative. One Caribbean destination has decided to advertise on ride share vehicles in New York City this summer — but will anyone be around to see them? And a hotel brand decides to sell access to its travelers by creating its own media network. Check it all out in our three-minute read below.
NFTs Check In At Hotels
New York City's NoMo SoHo hotel has become the first hotel in the United States to offer NFT reservations. Using SolidBlock’s platform and technology, NFTStays, a selection of specially curated NFTs are packaged with three to six-night stays at NoMo SoHo. For now, only 300 NFTs will be released, starting at .41 ETH, or $836 at the time of launch. Booking via the NFT package will be similar to using any sort of promo code, making the experience seemingly seamless for the buyer. Read more in The Robb Report here.
Mushrooms Become A Whole-Cut Meat Alternative
And now vegans can have their steak and eat it too. Meati is a start-up whole-cut meat alternative product produced from mushroom roots. Its first steak filet product is made with mycelium, the vegetative part of fungus consisting of thread-like fibers, and offers a texture which can be used to create a variety of types and cuts of animal meat. It also provides a neutral texture, eliminating the need for masking agents, and requires a small amount of land, energy, and water to produce. Read more in Meat/Poultry here.
Taking Advertising To The Streets…Literally
The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism has just taken a major marketing campaign to the streets of New York City. Visit USVI has joined forces with Carvertise, a rideshare advertising company, to deploy a fleet of 20 rideshare vehicles to drive through the Big Apple’s streets for a two-month-long activation. While the cars will be wrapped with beach scenes from the destination’s three islands, does anyone actually pay attention to the cars driving by in The Big Apple unless you are about to be run over by one? I guess we will find out. Read more in Insider Travel Report here.
Marriott Creates A Media Network
Marriott is looking to monetize its access to traveling consumers by getting into the media network game. The Marriott Media Network gives advertisers an omnichannel solution for reaching high-intent travelers on the path to purchase, pre-arrival and during their stay. The network will eventually expand globally to encompass more than 164 million members of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program. Read more in Marketing Dive here.
