The year is not even a month old yet and we’re seeing some significant changes in the way people are traveling. As a continuation from 2023, Music Tourism is accelerating with Taylor Swift and Cold Play performing in Europe and searches for vacations to their concert venue cities on the rise. Believe it or not, many of today’s newlyweds actually prefer to take a honeymoon with their friends. Sleep is still tops on most consumers’ agendas as Sleep Tourism and Sleep Retreats gain in popularity. Music Tourism To Accelerate In 2024
Many consumers are looking to combine music concerts with travel this year tapping into a desire for connection. Most notably is Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour where international searches for trips to Paris for seven or more days coinciding with the dates of the concerts have increased by 21%. “Buddymoons” Continue To Gain In Popularity
Travel agents are reporting a growing number of couples are inviting friends to join them on their honeymoon. Couples are actually taking multiple post-married trips — both their traditional honeymoon alone as well as one with friends. Buddymoon travelers tend to be couples in their 30s who are well established in their relationships and have likely traveled together in the past. Read more in Travel Weekly here.
The Emergence Of The “Sleep Retreat”
The travel industry is going all in on a good night’s rest. We’re talking the physical setup of the room including mattresses, linens, blackout curtains, and more as well as actual sleep retreats designed to reset a guest’s circadian rhythm involving biohacking with cryotherapy, hot and cold plunges, and the Spa Wave Table, which promises three hours of sleep in just 30 minutes. Cutting Down On Travel Costs With Boomerang Tourism
How are younger generations coping with the high cost of living these days AND being able to take a vacation? They’re calling it “Boomerang Tourism,” meaning people are finding ways around it by turning to their parents. So not only are adult kids moving back in with their parents as we’ve seen, there is also a rise in adult children re-joining their parents for summer holidays abroad. More than half (54%) said they would join their parents on holiday if they offered, with a similar percentage saying they would do so because their parents would cover the cost for them.
